Range expansion

The WAG encourages initiatives which facilitate habitat continuity and the linking of suitable wild dog range.  Furthermore the WAG welcomes initiatives which aim to identify and assess recoverable range, previously inhabited by free ranging wild dogs.

The managed metapopulation initiative assists to ensure persistence of important sub-populations, however, wild dogs are a wide-ranging carnivore and the need for wild dog-tolerant land stewardship adjoining, or linking metapopulation reserves is seen as a crucial element in ensuring localised persistence of the species.

Work is currently underway to create expanded available range in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
